New Medicare cards coming in 2018

CMS will begin mailing new insurance cards in April 2018, replacing all Medicare cards by the April 2019 congressional deadline. These new insurance cards will no longer have the members Social Security number listed, helping to prevent identity theft and safeguard taxpayer dollars. There will be a 21-month transition period where providers will be able to use either the new Medicare Beneficiary Identifier or the current Health Insurance Claim Number which will further ease the transition.
